 About the Workshop:

You’re growing your family! Congratulations. A lot of preparation for a new child revolves around… well the child. But, have you thought about the ways your relationship might be affected during this transition?

Research has shown that within three years after the birth of a child, approximately two-thirds of parents will experience a significant drop in their relationship. Some relationships may experience conflict and hostility while others may experience the effects of postpartum depression. So what do we do about that? From the Gottman Institute’s research, we now know that a couple’s emotional connection is the real foundation for a baby’s development. With the research that the Gottman Institute discovered, they created the Bringing Baby Home (BBH) Program.

The BBH program is dedicated to improving the quality of life for babies and children by strengthening their families. This program was created and researched in the state of Washington and is now being offered across the nation and around the world. The aim of the program is to promote social change by making BBH available as part of birth preparation and family service programs offered to expectant and new parents in community settings. Through the success of Bringing Baby Home, millions of babies and young families at every socioeconomic level and from every ethnic and racial group will be able to build a strong foundation that is emotionally sensitive to babies and family relationships.
